Church in Letterkenny

The 19th century C of I church known as Conwal church appears to have been built on the site of an earlier 17th century parish church with adjoining graveyard (DG053-043002-) with earliest graveslab (DG053-043003-) dating from c. 1620 (SMR file 1996). This church was described in the 1654 Civil Survey of Donegal as 'there is therein a Towne called Litterkenny (DG053-042) wch hath a Markett every ffryday,and two faires in the yeare wth a Larg dwelling Stone house haveing a Bawne of fower fla[n]ckers a fair Church And a bridg[e] at the End of the sd. towne over the sd.
