Graveslab in Kilsheelan

In the nave of Kilsheelan Church (TS084-002002-) which is at the E of Kilsheelan village, S of the main road and immediately N of the River Suir. This late 16th/early 17th-century graveslab (dims. 0.66m x 0.68m x D 0.6m) is planted upright in the ground and much of the upper part has been broken off. It is decorated with a six-armed cross with pointed terminals and a sun and moon motif on either side of the shaft. The cross form is similar to that on a graveslab (TS083-019024-) in St. Mary's church, Clonmel which dates to 1592. The back of the slab was reused in 1792 for the burial of Judith Connell.
