What is recorded here
Inishcaltra, County Clare. A rough, recumbent graveslab lies just outside the east wall of Teampul na bhFear nGonta, measuring 1.14m long and 0.44m wide at the top. It sits within the Saint’s graveyard, 4.8m from the north wall, plain and unmarked on Macalister’s 1916-17 plan. A thinner slab of similar length rests immediately to the north, echoing the kerbstones of the adjacent composite grave. These are not monuments to fame but to forgetting: names erased, bodies returned to island soil, death made ordinary beneath the sky.
Situated immediately outside the E wall of Teampul na bhFear nGonta (CL029-009015-) within the ‘Saint’s graveyard’ (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra and 4.8m from the N wall of the graveyard. A rough, uneven, recumbent graveslab (L 1.14m E-W; Wth 0.44m at the top; Wth 0.4m at the base) indicated as plain and not numbered on Macalister’s plan of the graveyard (1916-17, pl. XV). A slab of similar length but only c. 0.12m wide lies immediately to the N, similar to the kerbstones around the composite grave (CL029-009210-) adjacent to the E.
