What is recorded here
Inishcaltra is a small island off County Clare, but the missing graveslab at its centre is an hole in the story. Macalister drew it in 1916, yet it has vanished from the place where it should still lie. Perhaps the sea took it, perhaps people moved it, or perhaps it sank beneath the grass and forgot itself. What remains is a graveyard with one absence, waiting for someone to remember the shape of what is gone.
This record is for the original location of an undecorated graveslab depicted but not numbered on Macalister’s plan of the ‘Saint’s graveyard’ (CL029-009030-) (1916-17, pl. XV) close to the centre. The slab is no longer evident at this location and its present location is unknown.
