Graveslab in Inishcaltra OR Holy Island

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Inishcaltra is a small island off Clare where a saint and his followers are said to have lived. The story claims they left Ireland during a bad time and never returned. That is all the place needs: a lost column, a buried church, and a sea that keeps the shape of what it took.
Situated in the SW corner of the Saint’s graveyard (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra, 4.3m from the S wall and 2.5m from the W wall. An undecorated recumbent graveslab (L 1.49m; Wth 0.71m) drawn but not numbered on Macalister’s plan of the graveyard (1916-17, pl. XV). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 9 November 2015

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
