Graveslab in Inishcaltra OR Holy Island

Graveslab

What is recorded here

Half a metre of forgotten life lies crammed into the western shadow of the saint's graveyard on Inis Cealtra. The small undecorated slab rests barely a metre from the stone wall, marking a body small enough to fit inside the hand span of a child or a dwarf. Macalister drew its outline but never gave it a number, leaving the dead person without a name in the official record.
Situated in the W half of the Saint’s graveyard (CL029-009030-) on Inis Cealtra, 9.25m from the S wall and 0.8m from the W wall. An undecorated recumbent graveslab (L 0.52m; Wth 0.38m) drawn but not numbered on Macalister’s plan of the graveyard (1916-17, pl. XV). Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 9 November 2015
