Graveslab in Inis Oírr is a limestone chamber burial marked by a ringed Latin cross, preserved beneath a modern roof in County Galway. The cross has splaying terminals and a shaft that juts before continuing, while grooves and semicircular features fill the spaces inside its ring. It may belong to St Cavan’s Grave, but the pit and slab speak more clearly for craftsmanship, loss and remembrance than for any one named life.

This limestone graveslab is at the bottom of a stone-lined pit, which is possibly the site of ‘St Cavan’s Grave (GA120-007004-). It is about 1.5m below the present ground level and a modern roofed building now protects it. The slab (exposed L c. 1.52m; Wth 0.65m) bears a ringed Latin cross with splaying terminals. The long shaft splays towards the bottom but juts in sharply before continuing on. The angles between the arms of the cross are hollowed out and interspaces between the angles and the enclosing ring are filled with grooves and semicircular features (Higgins 1987, vol. 2, 364, no. 86).
