Graveslab in Clonegall, County Carlow, holds one of two exceptionally weathered granite stones, one marked with an incised cross. Time has softened its edges until the carvings barely resist forgetting. Whatever life ended beside that stone has surrendered its name to rain and moss, leaving only the shape of a cross to mark the boundary between memory and loss.
