Gravel Ridge

Gravel Ridge is a low gravel islet in Upper Lough Erne where hundreds of sandwich terns and black-headed gulls still raise their young. It sits two kilometres south of Boa Island, covered in seasonal balsam and false oat grass, and gives a small share of Ireland’s rare breeding seabirds somewhere clean to return. The island is not large, but it is valuable because so few Northern Irish places still hold such colonies.
