What is recorded here
Grave Yd. is a small graveyard on Kilmallock Hill where the medieval ruins of Kilmallock Church still stand beside the buried dead. The church is dedicated to St. Mocheallog, and the graveyard has remained marked enough to show in aerial photographs despite being scarcely used in later times. It is the kind of place where ordinary life still passes, but the dead keep the centre and the living must remember they are guests.
Situated on Kilmallock Hill with historic town of Kilmallock (LI047-022001-) 715m to SSE. Medieval ruins of Kilmallock Church (LI047-019001-) dedicated to St. Mocheallog stands in centre of graveyard which is depicted on the 1840 ed. OS 6-inch map. On this map the small graveyard is depicted as a roughly square-shaped area (approx. dims. 23m N-S x 25m E-W) shown in dotted outline. The outline of this graveyard boundary is visible today on Digital Globe aerial photographs. Graveyard described by Begley (1906, 94) as 'a graveyard attached to the ruin, but it is now scarcely ever used'.
