Grave Yd.

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Grave Yd. marks a children's burial ground tucked into the northwest quadrant of a rath in County Galway. Haphazard set stones scatter across an irregular strip fourteen metres long, clustering along the inner bank where small bodies may have rested beside the living fortress. The arrangement feels less like formal ceremony and more like urgent love, placing the dead where they could still hear the rhythm of the house.
Within the NW quadrant of a rath (GA099-064----). Irregular unenclosed area (L 13m; Wth 4.7m) within which a number of set stones are haphazardly arranged. Most grave-markers lie on the top and inner slopes of the inner bank of the rath. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 29 November 2017
