Grave Yd.

A trapezoidal graveyard (c. 60m NW-SE; c. 40m NE-SW at NW end; c. 50m NE-SW at SE end) enclosed by a stone wall. It was extended c. 25m to the NW prior to 1894 and quernstones found here are in the NMI (pers. comm. M. B. Timoney). A small walled-off area against the W wall is the burial place of the Cogan family. The fragmentary remains of the medieval parish church of Ballynakill (SL027-094001-) are in the centre of the interior. It has been noted that the memorials are arranged in an arc in the SE quadrant, perhaps indicating the former existence of a curved enclosing element around the graveyard (pers. comm. M. B. Timoney).
