Grave Yard, Leitrim Well (Site of)

Situated on the N edge of Leitrim graveyard (WI022-011004-). The site of a holy well which had a pattern on St James' Day, the 25th of July (OS Name Books). No visible remains. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). The well was associated with St James and was the focus of a local pattern or pilgrimage on St James' Day (25 July). Holy wells linked to St James were often believed to have healing properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes and skin.
