Grave Yard

At the centre of a large early ecclesiastical enclosure (CL017-094001-). Marked and labelled ‘Graveyard’ on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1916) editions of the OS 6-inch map. Westropp (1915, 272) suggested that the graveyard wall was built with stone robbed out from the ecclesiastical enclosure wall. A rectangular graveyard (int. dims. L 35m E-W; Wth 30m N-S) is defined by a mortared stone wall (H c. 1.2m) and is accessed through a gate at the S end of the E wall leading from a gap in the ecclesiastical enclosure wall outside. A ruined church (CL017-094002-) stands at the centre and, in 1999, the legible gravemarkers dated from c. 1890 to 1990.
