Grave Yard (Disused)

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yard (Disused) is an abandoned burial ground on a west-facing pasture slope in County Longford, Ireland. Its collapsed drystone border and missing markers suggest people once tended bodies there before forgetting the names. The empty square may have held generations whose identities the grass and silence absorbed.
On a W-facing slope in pasture. This roughly square graveyard (c. 32m N-S; c. 30m E-W) is enclosed by a low largely collapsed drystone wall. No grave-markers are visible. A possible church (LF010-017002-) is associated. (Lennon 2005) Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan, Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 4 June 2013
