Grave Yard

Attached to the W and SW of Rathborney church (CL005-027002-). The graveyard is defined by straight modern walls along the W and N and by a curved modern wall E-SW (overall dims. c. 75m E-W; c. 48m N-S). The rath or ecclesiastical enclosure (CL005-027001-) occupies most of this enclosed area. Graves are spread throughout the graveyard as well as within the church. Gravemarkers include headstones, flat slabs, reused masonry from the church as well as simple plain gravemarkers and occasional square-headed crosses. The earliest decipherable inscription dates to 1800. At least one grave was inserted into the ESE end of a Man-made underground passage (CL005-027004-) within the ecclesiastical enclosure (CL005-027001-). There is a bullaun stone (CL005-027005-) within the graveyard 18m SSW of the church and just outside the ecclesiastical enclosure.
