Graveyard

What is recorded here

An overgrown D-shaped enclosure is described in italic lettering as a graveyard on the 1839 and 1941 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and it is located at the N edge of a plateau. This is a D-shaped overgrown area (dims. c. 47m N-S; c. 43m E-W) defined by a straight N-S field bank at W and a scarp and fosse (at SE: Wth 3m; int. D 1.4m; ext. D 0.7m) elsewhere. There is no visible entrance. The remains of a small structure (WX037-082001-) are in the interior, but there is no evidence of headstones or grave-markers in the enclosure. Archaeological monitoring (21E0093) by D. Shine c. 150m to the S at the closest point produced no related material (excavations.ie 2021:021). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 20 December, 2012 Amended: 4 November 2021
