Gramp's Hill is a low chalk ridge rising to approximately 180 metres, typical of the gently undulating terrain of the Vale of White Horse. Its name may derive from the Old English "gramp" meaning a rough or rugged place, reflecting its prominence in an otherwise flat landscape.
