Goonhilly Earth Station, located in Cornwall, was established in the 1960s as a major satellite communication facility and played a key role in early space communications, including the transmission of the Apollo moon landings. It is associated with the development of global satellite technology and was operated by the British General Post Office, later British Telecom.
