Glenveagh Native Woodland

Around the castle and along the lough in Glenveagh National Park, some of the best surviving native oak and birch woodland in the north west, kept as red deer range. The old estate was cleared of its tenants in the Derryveagh evictions of 1861, one of the most notorious clearances in Irish history.
