Glandalane Mill (Corn)

On S bank of Blackwater River, c. 0.5 km N of Clondulane. Millrace taken via weir from Blackwater River c. 200m to NW. Mill is extensive ruined multiphase structure: 6/7-storey (long axis N-S), built of random-rubble stone; double-gable-ended to S. Window opes stone arched, repaired with brick arches on upper floors. Interior empty shell. Wheel-pit (D 6m) alongside N wall, covered by wheel house, houses an inward-flowing turbine; some gearing survives. Former aerial wire rope-way, indicated on 1935 OS 6-inch map, took grain from mill to store in Clondulane Railway Station (no longer in use) c. 700m to S. Mill built by Earl of Mountcashell 'who constructed mill-dam across Blackwater river at Poul-Shane...these mills are worked by Mr R. Briscoe of Fermoy' and employed 30 persons, producing 20,000 bags of flour annually (Lewis 1837, vol. 1, 356).
