Glamis Castle, including its notable lion statue, has been held by the Lyon family, later Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, since the 14th century. The castle is historically important as the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and is associated with Scottish royal history and Shakespeare's *Macbeth*.
