What is recorded here

Marian's chamber and kitchen garden, Dutch Garden, stand inside the castle grounds at Glamis. They belong to the living castle, not a dead museum, which is why the ground still smells of rain and the walls still hold the shape of hands that touched them. What is recorded is small. What is remembered is larger.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Glamis Castle, Dutch Garden as Garden (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Glamis Castle, including its Dutch Garden, was built by the Lyon family, who have held the estate since the 14th century. The castle is historically significant as the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and is associated with Scottish royal history and Shakespeare's Macbeth.
