Girdle Ness is a headland composed primarily of Old Red Sandstone, dating to the Devonian period, around 400 million years ago. It formed through sedimentation in a shallow marine or fluvial environment and is notable for its resistant rock formations that have withstood coastal erosion, contributing to the distinctive geography of the Aberdeen area.
