Germaine Necker, Baroness de Staël-Holstein, was a prominent French writer, intellectual, and political theorist who lived on this site during her exile from 1813 to 1814. She was a key figure in European literary and political circles and associated with the site during the final years of her self-imposed exile following the rise of Napoleon.
