Gateway in Unknown Townland

(48) Whitefriar Street: The precise location of a 15th-century gateway on Whitefriar Street belonging to the Carmelite Friary (DU018-020049-) has not been identified (Bradley and King 1987, 3, 197, No. 197). The approximate location of this gate was shown on the Friends of Medieval Dublin Map 1978 and on the Irish Historic Towns Atlas map of Medieval Dublin c. 840–c. 1540 (Clarke 1978; Clarke 2002). This was described as a new gate near the house of the Carmelite friars (DU018-020049-) in 1496 (Clarke 2002, 22). See attached section of Medieval Dublin c. 840–c. 1540. In H.B.
