Gateway in Palmerstown (crannagh By.)

Indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map of ‘The Liberties of the Citty of Kilkenny’ and on the Down Survey parish map ‘Canice in the Liberties of the Citty of Kilkenny’ as 'Parke gate' along the S boundary of, 'a Park belonging unto the Countisse of Ormond Pro[te]s[tan]t' (Hibernia Regnum, courtesy of Trinity College Dublin). The park corresponds to the modern townand of Deerpark. The precise location of the gate is unknown, though it is roughly in the area of the farm annotated, 'Big Barns' on the 1945-6 revision of the OS 6-inch map.
