Gateway in Lisnanard

On heavily overgrown and undulating wet pastureland. A trapezoidal gateway (2.61m NE–SW at NW; 2.41m NE–SW at SE; 1.8m SE–NW; H 2.4m), open to the NW and giving access from SE to NW. Built of randomly coursed limestone and mortar, with stressed quoins. The doorway (H 1.82m; Wth 0.94m) is spanned by 7 or 8 lintels (combined H 0.6m), which are in turn capped by rubble (H 0.26m). The original height is unclear. Remnants of a string course and a small low plinth at ground level survive on the SE face. Two opposing recesses are located on each internal side of the NW projecting walls (Wth 0.14–0.46m; H 0.2–0.4m; D 0.16–0.46m).
