These mid nineteenth-century railings are significant contributors to the architectural heritage of the city. Surviving nineteenth-century railings such as these are increasingly threatened by modern replacement. The fine railings once formed part of a paving scheme, though much of the related paving and kerbing have been removed and replaced with concrete.
