What is recorded here

Gateway, dated 1852, in the shape of a horseshoe with cut-granite surround including keystone inscribed: "1852". The gateway gave access to a forge or smithy in the yard behind the adjoining building.
A somewhat romantic legacy of the Victorian view of the blacksmith's trade. It adds interest to the streetscape.

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
