Ballyloughan Gatehouse stands east of the Anglo-Norman castle, its two circular three-storey towers framing an arched entrance like a clenched fist. Built to control entry, it still blocks the line of sight and forces every traveller to slow, face the wall, and admit they have arrived somewhere owned. The stone does not decorate; it warns.
