Gallauns

On small platform, below rocky gorse-grown ridge, on NE slopes of Kilbarry Hill. Row of five stones, one of which is prostrate, aligned NE-SW, c. 9.5m in overall length. NE stone is tallest and 3m distant from others; it measures 1.15m L, 0.65m T and 1.3m H. Next stone is 1m L, 0.6m T and 1.15mH. Third stone, 0.7m to SW, is 0.9m L, 0.7m T and 1.15m H. Fourth stone,0.4m from last, is 0.9m L, 0.6m T and 1.15m H. Fifth stone is prostrate; it measures 2.9m by 1.2m and is 0.3m T. Overall length of erect stones is 7.9m. Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the alignment may have had ceremonial or astronomical significance. Such stone rows are often associated with ritual activity or marking territorial boundaries in prehistoric landscapes.
