What is recorded here
Gallauns is a three-stone row in County Kerry, Ireland, where a missing fourth stone once stood beside them. The stones align across rough pasture near a medieval road, marking an old boundary or ritual line before the nearby circle appeared. They still point east-northeast like a finger stretched across time, waiting for someone to read what they recorded.
In rough pasture, on a terrace to the S of a medieval road (KE108-013007-), on the lower N-facing slopes of Knocknaveacal. This stone row comprises three stones, aligned ENE-WSW, and measures 6.3m in overall length. Excavation revealed the socket of a fourth stone to the E and stratigraphic evidence suggests that the row was erected some centuries before the nearby five-stone circle (KE108-013004-), c. 1m to the N (Lynch 1981, 64-9). The ENE stone (L 1.4m; T 1m; H 2.4m) is the tallest and the WSW stone (L 0.6m; T 0.5m; H 1.4m) is the smallest. There is a multiple-stone circle (KE108-013001-) c. 80m to the W, a fulacht fia (KE108-056----) c. 50m to the SE, relict field boundaries (KE108-013005-) immediately to the W and S, and a field boundary (KE108-013006-) lies c. 70m to the E.
