What is recorded here

Gallán stood alone in County Cork until removal erased it without a visible surface trace. It appeared on 1939 OS 6-inch maps but avoided the earlier 1842 and 1903 OS 6-inch maps. That sudden visibility and later disappearance suggest a place remembered through change rather than preserved.

Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the stone may have had ceremonial or territorial significance. Its removal and lack of surviving carvings prevent definitive interpretation of its original use or symbolic meaning.
