What is recorded here

Gallan was a single standing stone just outside the west side of a Cork ringfort, visible on the 1938 map but absent from earlier ones. It has since disappeared without surface trace, leaving behind a gap rather than a monument. The stone may have marked a entrance, a warning or a memory for people moving through that landscape. Its loss does not diminish the place; it sharpens the mystery of what was set upright there and why it was taken down.
