What is recorded here

Gallán was a standing stone in County Cork, Ireland, recorded beside a field fence on the 1937 map but absent from earlier surveys. Farmers cleared the fence around 1979 and knocked the stone over. It still lies twenty-six metres south, waiting for someone to remember why it stood.

Not marked on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps. Marked adjacent to field fence on 1937 OS 6-inch map (CO022-019----). Removed during field fence clearance c. 1979. Stone (L 2.33m; 1.1m x c. 0.26m) now lies c. 26m to S beside field fence. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Likely dating to the late prehistoric or early historic period, the stone may have had a ritual or territorial function. Its name "Gallán" suggests a possible Christian or early monastic association, though its original purpose remains unclear.
