What is recorded here

Gallan is a standing stone in County Cork, Ireland. It stands in pasture on a south-facing slope, irregular in shape with a long north-south axis, and may be lying on its side. One of four stones recorded in the townland by Bowman in 1934, it remains unmarked on older maps yet endures as a quiet witness to forgotten human life.

Not marked on 1842 and 1905 OS 6-inch maps. In pasture, on S-facing slope. Stone (H 0.9m; 1m x 1.6m) is irregular in plan and shape, long axis N-S; may be lying on its side. One of four stones (9909, 9910, 9911) recorded in this townland by Bowman (1934, 404). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
