Gabrielle's Gallery

Gabrielle's Gallery occupies the old school at Capel Cynon near Ffostrasol, where the former classrooms have found a wonderfully messy new syllabus. Walk in to see Gabrielle Dudley's paintings and ceramic tiles; stay a little longer and you may end up painting a pot of your own. The gallery displays Dudley's oils, including Ceredigion scenes, alongside handmade tiles, prints and cards. Its studio offers pottery painting, classes and commissioned work. Gabrielle trained in fine art and later ceramics, and the gallery has been her own exhibition space since 2016. The old school building matters to the experience: its former playground provides parking, while the rooms now make space for visitors to browse or work at a table. Art is being shown and made under the same roof. I reckon a retired school bell still rings whenever someone chooses a particularly daring glaze, although perhaps that noise is just me dropping a brush. The real pleasure is seeing a finished tile beside the place where another one is taking shape. Even if you have no intention of picking up a paintbrush, the work invites a closer look at local colour, careful line and a bit of practical patience. Find Yr Hen Ysgol on the A486 at Capel Cynon, Ffostrasol, with parking behind the building. The gallery welcomes browsers during its advertised public days, while pottery and classes can fill up, so book an activity in advance. Check the operator's current times before travelling, especially outside school holidays. Leave wet work and tools to their makers unless invited to join in; there is plenty here to enjoy with clean hands too.

This does not grant access. Check current paths, opening conditions and ownership before entering.
