Furnace in Adamstown (middlethird By., Kilmeadan Par.)

Situated on a SE-facing slope. First identified in archaeological testing (02E0275) in advance of the N25 Waterford City by-pass (Russell (2006f), and fully excavated (03E1215) as a feature in Area A of Adamstown 1 (Russell 2006i). Within the hut-site (WA017-123006-), but probably not associated with it, is a pit (dims. c. 0.62m x 0.5m; D 8cm) that contained a fragment of slag and a heat-shattered grinding stone.
