What is recorded here

Tooreenard holds a fulacht fia, a burning water place from the deep past. It is no longer a mound because a local owner flattened it in the 1980s and took some of its stone to build a farm road. The stones may have drunk rain, given up heat, and witnessed ordinary life before they were broken for a practical road.

This record was formerly classed as a 'fulacht fiadh' in both the SMR (1990) and the RMP (1997). The monument is described by the 'Castleisland District Archaeological Survey' - March 1990 - as a 'small mound of [burnt] material' which had been levelled by the landowner in the 1980s and 'removed some of the stone to metal a farm road' (SMR file).
