Fulacht fia in Tomdeely North

In low-lying, poorly drained pasture, c. 20m to E of a tidal stream and c. 400m S of the Shannon Estuary. Not depicted on OS historic mapping. Identified in 1999 as a possible fulacht fia by Celie O’Rahilly when walking the route of a proposed ESB power line. Described as a raised oval-shaped platform (14m NE-SW; 10m NW-SE). There is a possible stone feature at the SW end with a linear feature extending W toward the stream. A gallops track lies c. 15m to E. The morphology of this feature and its proximity to a watercourse could suggest that it is the remains of a levelled out fulacht fia. Monument is visible as an irregular oval-shaped stony area on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages taken 08/04/2015.
