Fulacht fia in Teadies Upper

A spread (15.6m E-W; min. 4.35m N-S; max. D 0.6m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil was discovered during topsoil stripping in advance of the construction of the Ballincollig-Ballineen gas pipeline and was excavated in 2000. The spread had been cut by field drains in several places and had also been severely damaged during the topsoil stripping. A subcircular feature (2.7m NW-SE; 1.65m NE-SW; max. D 0.5m) was uncovered 0.3m to the S of the main concentration of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. It was predominately filled with heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil and its base was lined with a thin layer of grey silt and charcoal. The excavator suggests that it is possibly the remains of a trough. Spring wells were noted to the N and S of the spread. A possible burnt mound (CO109-091001-) lies 0.35m to the W.
