Hot stones, lifted from fire and plunged into water, would have hissed and steamed in that low wet hollow. The mound still holds heat-shattered sandstone and charcoal, witness to repeated use. People may have cooked, cleaned or gathered there beside the small pool, while cattle later rubbed the edges smooth.

In pasture, located in a patch of lowlying, wet rush-grown ground, bordered to SE–S by slightly higher, drier ground. At time of visit there was a small pool of standing water, possibly recently dug out, immediately adjacent at N. A prominent, roughly kidney-shaped mound (15.5m NNE–SSW; 13m WNW–ESE; H 0.85 at NNE, 0.4m at SSW) with a distinct central depression (c. 2.5m N–S; 3.5m E–W) possibly indicating the location of a trough. The mound is lowest on the W side, with pronounced ‘arms’ wrapping around the central hollow at N and S. Two smaller surface depressions are also evident: one consisting of a circular area (2m E–W; c. 1m N–S) dug out (probably recent) of the NNW edge of the mound, and the other consisting of a shallow dip (max. dim. c 1.5-2m) on the S side of the mound. Heat-shattered sandstone fragments in charcoal-rich soil could be seen where sections of the mound had been eroded by farm stock. A burnt mound (MA111-098----) is located c. 30m to SW.
