Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

In improved pasture, on a gentle SE-facing slope, just above a valley running NE-SW to NE. Situated on a plateau area (dims. 16m NW-SE; c. 12m NE-SW) defined by natural scarp (Wth 12m; H 0.6m) and cut into the hillside SW-W-NE, which rises gradually 2m above monument to NW. According to local information a classic horseshoe-shaped mound of stone and black soil (overall diam. c. 7-8m) existed here c. 30-40 years ago. It was possibly levelled when a field boundary, running ENE-WSW, was removed to S or during drainage works in recent decades. It is not visible at ground level.
