Fulacht fia in Lacken (bantry By.)

Located towards the bottom of a SE-facing slope of Lacken Hill. A deposit consisting of patches of grey/black silty clay with charcoal (diam. 8-8.5m) was identified in centre-line testing (E4067) for the N25 New Ross by-pass during 2009 (Doyle et al. 2010, 41-2). It was set aside for resolution as Lacken 3 and excavated (E4125) when a trough (dims 2.74m NE-SW: 1.68m NW-SE; D 0.38-0.52m) with 59 stake-holes in five clusters was recorded beneath a truncated spread of broken and burnt stone (dims 2.25m NE-SW; 1.1m NW-SE; max. T 0.3m). There was a small pit (dims 0.7m x 0.6m; D 0.2m) and some post-holes associated with the trough. The excavated features (WX030-100----) are c. 70m to the NE.
