Knockeenduff holds a horseshoe of burnt stone beside a rath, waiting for people who understand heat and water. Cattle still tear the mound open, dragging ancient fire into the rush pasture while the western opening faces the coming dark. The place does not need a legend because it is already giving itself away, one black chip at a time.

In rough rush-covered pasture, on a W-facing slope with views restricted by trees. A horseshoe-shaped mound (8.5m N-S; 8m E-W; H 0.3m) of burnt material protrudes above the surface of the shallow bog. The opening faces W. The surface of the mound is poached by cattle, exposing burnt material. A rath (KE058-160----) lies c. 40m to the W.
