Fulacht fia in Kilcooly North

Fulacht fia

What is recorded here

Hot water and living people vanished, but the stones remained shattered and scattered across Kilcooly North. They are not a proud mound or a complete circle; they are a broken kitchen that lost its shape. The heat left marks on every edge, and the marks still contradict the silence around them.
An area of burnt and fire-shattered stones was exposed when a drain was being dug. Only scattered shattered stones are visible today; no mound is discernible. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 67. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 1 August 2013
