Fulacht fia in Kilbegly is a fulacht fia in Kilbegly, County Roscommon, Ireland. Archaeological excavation during 2007 at Kilbegly 2 as part of the Athlone to Ballinasloe N6 road development recorded a spread of broken and burnt stones overlaying an oval, wattle-lined trough. Four samples from the trough produced closely corresponding dates of Cal. BC 2134-1886.

On a low-lying level landscape. Archaeological excavation (E3369) during 2007 at Kilbegly 2 as part of the Athlone to Ballinasloe N6 road development recorded a fulacht fia. It consisted of a spread of broken and burnt stones (dims 8.2m E-W; 6.3m N-S; T 0.4m) which overlay an oval, wattle-lined trough (dims 1.62m x 1.12m; max. D 0.4m). Four samples from the trough produced closely corresponding dates of Cal. BC 2134-1886. The later horizontal water mill (RO054-068----) is c. 30m to the SW, and the corn-drying kiln (RO054-070----) is c. 70m to the NE and (Jackman 2010; 2010a, vol. 1, 18-19) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010 Amended: 25 November, 2013
