Seven and a half metres of heat-split stone still lie buried beside the stream, waiting for water to be poured over them and stones pulled through fire. The house at Fawnglass was built later, its garden wall drawn across a place where people once cooked, cleaned or bathed in steam. The valley has kept the shape of that work longer than it has kept the names of the hands.

Situated on the N side of the valley that runs westwards from the Island’s harbour. The site lies on a gentle S-facing slope just outside the eastern boundary of the garden of a newly built house. The fulacht fia comprises a large mass of heat-fractured stone (L c. 7.5m × T c. 0.5m) exposed in E face of a recently deepened and widened stream channel that runs N–S immediately outside the garden boundary. The mass of stone peters out at the S end, but at the N end it terminates just before two large boulders that project from the stream bank. The ground surface in the vicinity is much disturbed and/or obscured by dumps of spoil. The mass of stone rests on c. 0.5m of peat that in turn overlies a gravelly subsoil that forms the stream bed.
