Fulacht fia in Dromnea

Horseshoe-shaped mound (10m NW-SE ; 6m NE-SW) of burnt material levelled during land reclamation and partially excavated by Cleary (1986, 49-54) in May-June 1984. Excavation was confined to N portion of mound and revealed stone-lined trough (2.15m NE-SW; 1.25m NW-SE ), trapezoidal in shape; hearth (max. dims. 2.2m NE-SW ; 1.6m NW-SE ) enclosed by stone built revetment. Possible revetment of mound to N. Sample of charcoal from hearth was radiocarbon dated to the Later Bronze Age (3090+_35 BP).
